Sun July 23, 2011 HIS101 Prof. Michele Lucas Writing Assignment #1 A Knight’s Tale Directed by Brian Helgeland, A Knight’s Tale is a film that was released in 2001 which takes place in a medieval era. Based loosely off of The Canterbury tales, it draws in viewers by adding a twist to the plot by incorporating modern day music and humor. The cast consisted of many well-known actors such as Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon and the late Heath Ledger, who played the protagonist William Thatcher. The plot begins by taking place in Medieval Europe around 1370 when William Thatcher and squires find their master, Sir Ector, dead during a tournament. Due to the fact that their master was no longer able to compete, William decides that he would finish the tournament with the jousting skills he had acquired from observing and practicing with Sir Ector since he was an adolescent. With a bit of luck, he wins the tournament and prize of money. But after the tournament, something inside of William sparks a desire to further compete in more tournaments, which seems to be nothing but wishful dream since he is not from a lineage of nobles. William then turns to the two squires and suggests to them that they continue to travel and to
