RUNNING HEADING: A JOURNEY IN LIFE 1 A Journey in Life Individual believe that a journey is only a distance that we travel, but it a journey can be much more. A journey can also be a passage we take in life such as the one we take when we die. In live individuals seem to focus where they are going, but fail to identify the importance of the complete route that takes them to their destination. In the poem “The Road Not Taken,” by Robert Frost and the short story "I Used to Live Here Once" by Jean Rhys there are many similarities and differences that express the author’s use of describing a path helps them personify life’s journeys and self-reflection. Jean Rhys and Robert Frost both focus on the crossing of the protagonist. They both show how the journey each main character takes caused their life to change. Their journey’s includes many hardships that stood in their way. Although, both works speak about a journey they have different because of the symbolism, characters and chronological perspective. The happiness and anticipation of an unpredictable passage allocates individuals to gain knowledge of the positive and negative things of diverse individuals they meet while they travel to different places which can end up be helpful in their life. A journey can change the way we view everything ads can even change us. Both authors give a very detailed description of the journeys their protagonist goes through and with their descriptions have shown the readers the different aspects of a journey. Both Robert Frost and Jean Rhys discuss their point of view about a journey in their literary works. Both authors define a journey in different approaches through different themes of journey. In poem “The Road Not Taken”, Frost portrays the choices taken by individuals and how these choses impact them in future. Poem displays that people choice today has a long term

A Journey in Life 2 effects on what they become tomorrow (Tischler, 2007, 125-130). It also demonstrates that when individuals get to a certain point where they have to make on their decisions, depending on the individual he/she might adopt to a normal way of finding a result for his/her problems or might do what some others may do to find out how to resolve their problems. Both things cannot be done people (Shurr, 2003, 584-590). Individuals have to decide on one path that they will take and once they have decided on the path they will take it might become difficult and unattainable to go back. Thus, people end becoming what they are due to their choices they have made earlier (Tischler, 2007, 125-130). This is why it is important to think about which is the right choice at the right time. The choices should be made based on what the person wants rather than what others have done when they were in the same situation. In his poem Robert frost shows peoples journey towards different paths of life basing on their life and how this journey has affected them in the long run. In the short story “I Used to Live Here Once” Jean Rhys also reveals a journey,
