Subject code: ENG110 Nowadays, the issues of mandatory retirement of workers are still arguing with many opinions. There are those who think that retirement at a specified age available was the right thing to take the opportunity for young people. But most others do not think so; they think that there are many who have experienced more success when they reached retirement age. I will summarize an article: “Mandatory Retirement Has to Go” with many comments on the issue of mandatory retirement. Then, I will analyze and response in order to people might to see that mandatory retirement was a misconception. According to the article “Mandatory Retirement Has to Go” – Folse Ketal, 1999, Houghton Mifflin Company, by requirement, people reach the age of sixty-five, they are forced to retire. It is a violation of personal choice, age discrimination and wastes valuable skills. Firstly, individual rights and personal choice is to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They have been selected to continue working or retiring. But mandatory retirement not allows them to do so. Second, mandatory retirement is clearly a form of age discrimination. Young people said that the company could hire them because they are younger and more creative. They are worried that there will not be enough positions for younger people, if old people are allowed to continue working. However, older workers have more knowledge and experience than younger.
