Week 7 DB Initial Post After reading the public policy issues discussed in Unit 7 I have decided to research “Entitlement Society” which significantly represents the population which receives federal assistance, which we know as welfare. As a Brooklyn, NY resident I personally know plenty of welfare recipients, matter of fact my mother received welfare when I was a toddler. Brooklyn is filled with middle class working families many of which have just one adult supporting the whole household. Welfare goes back to the Great Depression when a huge amount of families were left with no income and desperately looking for jobs. With the New Deal, Franklin D. Roosevelt (president during the Great Depression) allowed for people to receive government assistance in times of crisis. For those who do not know the Great Depression was one of America’s most economically concerned crisis where the stock market crashed and millions lost jobs, money, and even property. The policy has been effective but expensive. Below is a chart
