Week 7 Checkpoint: Regan’s Economics President Reagan’s conservative ways and politics gave a major boost to the economy of the United States when it really needed it. His “Reaganomics” focused on cutting taxes, cutting spending on special interest programs, and increasing spending on defense. One of the main promises of Reagan’s campaign was that there would be a cut in taxes for the American people. It was this promise that brought many democrats over to the Reagan side during the voting and won him the election. These conservative Reagan loving democrats became the Reagan Democrats and played an important role in getting Reagan’s conservative polices approved. Reagan had a theory that he built on that if he could lower the taxes on the rich it would create more jobs for everyone. These tax breaks allowed for the rich business man to pay less in taxes and expand their business’ thus employing more people and creating new jobs. With new jobs came greater spending and with greater spending comes a growing economy. In
