CP Lab Experimental Design: Our experiment is designed to test the effects of different types of exercise on pulse rate and blood pressure. We will test the effects of cardio-based exercise, namely jumping rope, against the effects of muscle tension exercise, namely leg raises, in which the subject holds his leg at a 30-degree angle above the ground for 1.5 minutes. So as to avoid any additional variability in terms of gender, all of the test subjects will be males. Research has shown that the chief limitation on the body’s capacity for physical exercise is the amount of cardiac output that can be generated by the body (Chapman), based on the fact that the heart pumps the blood that carries oxygen to the muscles and tissues that need it. Based on this fact, it can be stated that the type of workout that requires the most blood to be pumped around the body burns the most calories and requires the most energy, and is therefore, the most effective workout.
