EDP 310 1 Unit 2 Learning Objectives Topic: Academic Environment ( AE ) 1. Discuss how developing awareness of the academic environment can contribute to becoming a more strategic learner. 2. List and describe the 4 parts of the academic environment (from the Model of Strategic Learning). Show how you would use each in obtaining academic success. 3. Explain the role of time constraints in the academic environment. 4. Recall and discuss 6 major differences between high school and college and the impact each could have for becoming a strategic learner. 5. Explain the guidelines for forming and maintaining study group members and relate these to being academically successful. 6. Discuss and give examples of the 5 roles, processes and responsibilities of various study group members. 7. Discuss and give examples of the 3 types of academic help-seeking and how they relate to learning and achievement. Topic: Anxiety/Stress (ANX) 1. Identify which components of the Model of Strategic Learning Anxiety falls under and why. 2. Discuss how using copying with anxiety strategies can contribute to becoming a more strategic learner. 3. Explain enabling and self-sabotaging beliefs and their impact on learning. 4. Discuss the 4 common misperceptions of anxiety. 5. Describe how to control anxiety through awareness, reflection, and control. 6. Discuss how self-efficacy, attributions, self-sabotaging and enabling beliefs could relate to anxiety. 7. Discuss the effects of anxiety on concentration and recall: self- vs. task-focus, limited capacity for concentration, memory, learning and performance. 8. Explain the definition of anxiety according to the ABC model of anxiety. 9. Discuss in detail the ABC model of anxiety and how each of the parts work. 1 of 5
