Five Pillars of Islam 1 There is an enormous amount of disagreement involving the ways of life of Sunis and Shi’a Muslims. They do agree with most of the practices regarding their faith as well as sacred holidays. An important practice they both share is the fulfilling God’s commandments, commonly known as the “Five Pillars of Islam”. These five pillars of Islam are made up of the “Shahadah,” daily prayers, zakat, fasting, and hajj. All of these pillars are of very substantial meaning to the Islamic faith. The Shahadah, the first pillar of Islam is the simple fact of acknowledging and believing in God as the only divine being, with Muhammad as the messenger of God. These Muslims acknowledge and embrace Allah as their one and only god. The second pillar is completing the essential prayers five times a day. These prayers are
