Step One: Patient Pre-registration- In this step, patients schedule appointments. New patients are required to pre-register and answer questions pertaining to personal information about themselves prior to receiving medical services. This important personal information must be acquired before a patient can be seen by a physician or treated at a facility. This step also serves to determine if the medical problem was caused by some type of accident such as a fall, an auto accident, or if it stems from an accident which occurred while the patient was at work. Step Two: Establishment of financial responsibility for visits- The patient’s health insurance plan and eligibility status is verified in this step. This is used to ascertain what type of health coverage he or she is currently covered by. It is not uncommon for a patient to be covered by two types of plans and in this case, verification will be needed to ascertain which insurance is to be used as the primary plan and which is to be used as secondary.
