Melissa Murano Lab 2 Outline: Feb. 5 Section R3 I. Introduction to Anatomy using Planaria a. Obtain a Planaria whole mount slide and view under scanning power i. Can identify a Planaria head by the presence of two stigmata that look like eyes. ii. If label is to the left the anterior end of the Planaria will be the top of view. iii. Draw the Dorsal view-back side of an organism Ventral view – belly b. Organisms cut in three different ways 1. Longitudinal section (parallel longest axis), 2. Transverse section (perpendicular to the long axis), 3. Oblique section (angle less than 90 perpendicular of transverse) c. Obtain a Planaria three section c.s slide (c.s – cross section) i. Gives limited information, must identify where the cross section was made. ii. The three cross sections are the anterior end (top of view), one from the middle, and one from posterior 1. Locate anterior under low power and draw, draw middle section, then draw posterior section 2. Planaria body is roughly triangular, ventral is straight, dorsal is arced
