2 Allan Pinkerton On August 15, 1819 Allan Pinkerton was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Growing up Allan’s father was a police sergeant for the Glasgow police department; however he died when Allan was very young. As he got older Allan Pinkerton became a barrel maker. He also goes very involved in the Chartism movement. This movement not only sought political reform but social reform as well. Allan was also very well-known abolitionist. This meant Pinkerton was completely against slavery. Due to his various activities with being an abolitionist in 1842 an arrest warrant was issued against him. This caused Allan Pinkerton to flee to the United States from Scotland to avoid capture. When Allan entered the United States he decided to settle in Chicago, Illinois. After a year in the city he moved to the nearby suburb of Dundee, Illinois. Once settled
