Kala Carroll January 28, 2011 Essay 1- Literacy Narrative A Book to Remember As a child, I remember the first book I learned to read, for it would teach me more than just the words between the covers. In My kindergarten class I had the sweetest teacher, Mrs. Colley; she was kind, caring, and always amiable. She had dark curly hair and was dark complected with a few little freckles on her cheeks. Her classroom was bright and colorful with an ABC and a 123 border surrounding the top of the room. The class got their first real assignment on a Monday, and had until Friday to learn a book, bring it in, and read it in front of the whole class. I knew just the book I would bring to school, “Teddy bear, Teddy bear” , and I would soon find out the great impact that book, and a couple of very caring people, would have on my years to come. That summer before school started my mother and I went to Books-a-Million. I loved the children’s section. It was very colorful and had a comfy bench, just for me. I
