OPRS 235a, fall of 2010 Week #2 Class #2. Tuesday, Sept. 7. Chapter 3 and fragments of Chapter 2 will be discussed in this class. Class #3. Thursday, Sept. 9. Sections 1-4 of Chapter 4 will be discussed in this class. Assignment #1 . This assignment is “due” on Thursday, Sept 9. (The quotation marks acknowledge the fact that the shopping period has not ended – its OK to turn this in on the Tuesday, Sept 14.) Please do: Part (b) of Problem 1 at the end of Chapter 1. Problem 2 at the end of Chapter 2. Problem 2 at the end of Chapter 3. Notes: The second problem asks you to use Solver. Solver will not work on your computer if it is a MAC that’s equipped with Excel 2008.

Unformatted text preview: You will need to use a PC or a MAC that’s equipped with a different version of Excel. • The third problem asks you to use Gauss-Jordan elimination to solve a system of 3 equations in 3 unknowns. You could do this by hand, but that is not recommended. o Instead, download OP_TOOLS from the folder entitled Tools on our website, install it in your Excel Library, activate it, and use the = pivot(cell , array) function to take the grunt-work out of the calculation. o But if your computer is a MAC that is running Excel 2008, you would need to use some other computer because yours does not support Visual Basic....
