Coping Styles and Psychological Preparation 2 Gerry a 64-year-old male scheduled to receive a cardiac catheterization to check for any cardiovascular disorders; is a man who seems to be very focused and motivated when it comes to determining what is causing his severe chest tightness and shortness of breath. Since Gerry responds to his signs and symptoms in a constructive manner by seeking immediate treatment in determining what may be threatening, harming, or challenging his health, one could believe that he is an individual who is using problem-focused coping efforts to deal with his current situation (Associated Content, 2009). Although Gerry’s main coping strategy is one focused on problem solving. Gerry also seems to be displaying some signs of using an emotional response by not telling his wife what he is currently experiencing with his health. However, I do believe that this emotional response is one used out of the concern and care
