L6: (Ch19) International Capital Markets Bond Markets: Public Debt Markets Domestic Markets Domestic bonds are issued and traded domestically and denominated in the domestic currency (I.e. a 10 year bond denominated in $A issued on the ASX by Rio Tinto). International Markets International bonds are traded outside country of issuer. Foreign bonds issued in a domestic market (internal) by a foreign borrower, denominated in the domestic currency and regulated by domestic authorities (I.e. Dell 5 year bonds, listed on ASX and denominated in $A). Eurobonds are traded in external bond markets outside the borders of the country issuing the currency in which the bond is denominated (I.e. Dell sells 5 year bonds denominated in $A to a British bank in the UK. Global bonds trade in the Eurobond market as well as in one or more internal bond markets Registered versus Bearer Bonds Registered bonds Canada, Japan, U.S. issuers or agents maintain a record
