A story that is told from 4 diff pts of view ina format of a trial. various witnesses give their accoutns of what happened. Considered to be a violation of way of telling a film back then. (not linear. Minor jap produciton co, took name of out of credits, won1st place, opened door for jao cinema in western world. won academy award for foreign film. Rashmnon, how do you determine what is true? obj reality- real facts, subj view, ur own opinion. rape and murder and ppl on trial each tell story of what they think is the thruth, the story goes back and retells the story. story slightly diff told from each person. Acting Styles- was very broad very big, demonstrrative phys and emo, contrasted their preconceived notion of what they expected from japan, which was that japs are unexpressive. film not representative of jap style acting/films. Most jap films didnt have htis big style of acting- low key. Lead actor, bandit, Mifune, has a very flamboant performance. SCene- trial. the bandits pt of view as he talks about his story. not realism acting, effective in own unique way. huge faan of silent era. appreciated the honesty of the silent film perfomance, no huge reliance on the dialogue.
