Business Strategies Test Review Two primary drivers are the emergence of global economy and technology, specifically rapid technology change. Globalization increases the range of opportunities for companies in the current competitive landscape. What is Strategy by Michael Porter Operational Effectiveness- means performing these activities better, that is faster, or with fewer inputs and defects than rivals. o Companies must benchmark continuously o Outsource to gain efficiencies o Nuture Core Competencies Productivity Frontier- maximum value a company can deliver at a given cost, given the best available technology, skills, and management techniques. o Constantly shifts outward as new technologies and management approaches are developed and as new inputs become available. (operational effectiveness causes this shift) The more benchmarking companies have the more competitive convergence occurs. Strategic Position Emerges from 3 sources: o Serving few needs of many customers (variety based positioning) o Serving broad needs of few customers (needs based positioning)
