Profile and Law The Laws that I have decided to choose that I think that can impact the Human Service Agencies are the HIPAA and the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). These two Laws can definitely make people cringe if things are not done right and these Laws aren’t followed. For those who do not know the HIPAA Law is supposed to save clients from their information getting out in the public and possibly ruining someone’s life or just embarrassing their lives. It’s a Law that is greatly determined on confidentiality. The ADA is more of a Law to protect the people with disabilities being able to get jobs and not being discriminated just because of their disability. In other words it protects their civil rights. The ADA recognizes and protects the civil rights of people with disabilities and is modeled after earlier landmark laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race and gender. The ADA covers a wide range of disability, from physical conditions affecting mobility, stamina, sight, hearing, and speech to conditions such as emotional illness and learning disorders. The ADA addresses access to the workplace. State and local government services, also places of public accommodation and commercial facilities. It also requires phone companies to provide telecommunications relay services for people who have hearing or speech impairments and miscellaneous instructions to Federal agencies that enforce the law. Regulations issued under the different titles by various Federal agencies set requirements and establish enforcement procedures.
