Each OSPF router maintains an identical database describing the Autonomous System’s topology. From this database, a routing table is calculated by constructing a shortest path tree . It has introduced new concepts such as authentication of routing updates, Variable Length Subnet Masks (VLSM), route summarization, etc. It was developed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace RIP in 1991.
