Unformatted text preview: MAE 162D/E MAE Senior Mechanical Engineering Design Winter 2011 Autonomous Bulk Material Transporter You and your team are to design and build an autonomous vehicle for bulk material transportation The vehicle will follow a predesigned pathway and dump its payload into a collection bin at the end of the path. 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 2 Autonomous Vehicle Pathway 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 3 Path Platform Blueprint 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 4 Path Platform The vehicle path has 3 platforms and 2 ramps, The with a 2” safety wall on all sides The pathway will be made of wooden boards The 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 5 Pathway Rules Vehicles start in the “Starting/Loading Area Vehicles Platform” The pathway cannot be bypassed The Top platform must be reached via the pathway Top Payload must be dumped from the “Unloading Payload Area Platform” into the receiving bin 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 6 Power Rules Vehicle must be powered by ordinary & readily Vehicle available batteries: disposable or rechargeable Disposable battery limit: ten AAA, AA, C, or D (1.5Disposable volts) with three 9-volt = 13 batteries total Rechargeable battery limit: three 9-volt with a dozen Rechargeable 1.2-volt = 15 batteries total Either use disposable batteries or rechargeable Either batteries - no combining Available power is about the same Available 1-3-2011 MAE 162D 7 Power Rules Continued Use of rechargeable batteries is encouraged.
