Edgar Hoover no, but he was gay RuPaul!!!!-> Overview: 3 disorder types Sexual Dysfunction Problems with sexual responses Paraphilias Repeated and intense sexual urges or fantasies in response to objects or situations that society deems inappropriate Gender I dentity Disorder Sex-related pattern in which people persistently feel that they have been born to the wrong sex and I D with the opposite gender NOTE: Demographics There ar e gender differences, but NO cultural / racial differences Sexual Dysfunction Sexual Dysfunctions People cannot respond normally in key areas of sexual functioning (e.g., see below) Subsequently, decreased satisfaction with sex 13% men; 43% women (at some point in life) Another problem: Sexual Pain Life-long versus Acquired type Generalized versus Situational 4 stages of the dysfunction Desire Excitement Orgasm Resolution (not affected; relaxation; post-orgasm) DESIRE - dysfunctions Desir e for normal people: Urge to have sex, sexual fantasies, attraction 2 Dysfunctions: H ypoactive sexual desir e Sexual aver sion disor der Hypoactive Sexual Desire DSM: Persistent or recurrent deficiency of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity Significant distress or interpersonal difficulty i.e., Lack interest in sex; display little sexual activity But, enjoy the remaining phases (once sex gets started) Sexual Aversion Disorder DSM Persistent or recurrent extreme aversion to, and avoidance of, almost all genital contact with a sexual partner Significant distress or interpersonal difficulty Sex is unpleasant or repulsive; sickened, disgusted, or frightened by sexual advances of another May be a specific part of sex e.g., penetration Usually generalized all things sexual WHY? Reduction in Desire. Biological Decrease due to high levels of prolactin, low testosterone, high/low estrogen (birth control pills); illness; psychotropic drugs, depressants, stimulants, etc.; Psychological Anxiety, depression, anger; OCD and bodily fluids; negative attitudes or beliefs toward sex (e.g., dangerous or immoral); fear of pregnancy; trauma from sexual abuse Sociocultural Situational stressors (divorce, death, job stress, babies); relationship problems (unhappy, lost affection, feel...
