Valerie Bodden Kluge (10-0014) November 18, 2009 Introduction to Business Management Up the Organization book analysis Up the Organization “Excellence: Or, What the Hell Are You Doing Here?”. Robert Townsend’s Up the Organization is a book, similar to a manual, in which the author exposes his ideas, believes and expectations on how to adequately run a successful company. The book consists of short, concise chapters, organized in alphabetical order according to the author’s given chapter title, which he implies causes a sense of equality in his ideas, one does not seem more important than the other. He exposes his strong believes of how a company should interact internally, how Y generation tends to be more ambitions than the X generation crowds and how CEO’s should really interact with their company. While describing the different scenarios Townsend portrays for each of his beliefs, he utilizes a rather casual diction throughout his book. He seeks for the audience to relate to his stories therefore making it both clear and easy for his audience to understand his purpose.
