Unformatted text preview: W ESTERN T RAD I T IONS Christianity, Judaism, Islam can all be read as branches of a single family (all explicitly trace their origins back to the same source:): experience of God that's recorded by the ancient Hebrew peoples in the H E B R EW B I B L E (the origin narratives and representation of God) - ie this God is the same as that of Abraham and Moses and other prophets of Hebrew bible. Things common to these traditions :- concept of supreme being that exists outside of space and time, almighty and omniscient (infinite power);- human beings are made in the image of this being-being benevolently predisposed to world and interested in the wellfare of human beings-being is generally referred to as God (although each tradition has its own name for God). 1. only ONE God exists ( monotheism ) 2. concept of creation (closely related to idea of one God) is that God is the author of the universe (universe didnt always exist - God created every element of it in a particular time from sheer force of imagination and will). This creation is a good creation - cosmos is from sheer force of imagination and will)....
