2. G EMARAH (in Aramaic) - (plural = gemaroth - 'completion') extensive commentary on Mishnah ; much more complicated than mishnah - records arguments of 2000 sages concerning specific way to resolve issues by refering o the Mishnah 3. T ALMUD = mishnah and gemarah together (together, Mishnah + extensive commentary on it - results in Talmud ) There is one Mishnah (in Hebrew) in two different Talmuds: each Talmud = mishnah (same)+ gemarah(one of two different ones:) 1. B ABYLONIAN T ALMUD - from Jewish community in Babylonia; larger + more detailed - Sasanian Perian rule (224-641CE) - they are more tolerant of Jews then is situation in Palestine; 2. P ALESTINIAN T ALMUD (J ERUSALEM T ALMUD )- from Jewish community in Israel; most likely made in land of Galilee in Palestine not Jerusalem though - gives insight into time when times were shitty: economy going down, Christinity (and thus discrimination against Jews) going up, Christian emperor Theorodius II abolishes office of patriarch in 425CE
