O BJECTIVE The objec±ve of this experiment is to study loss of energy of fluids do to fric±onal resistance that occurs when it flows through a pipe. In another part of the experiment the Venturi meter will be used to examine how the increase of velocity and decrease of pressure is related to the cross sec±onal area of the pipe. INTRODUCTION In the first part of the experiment we will be analysing how a flow goes from laminar to turbulent. This change is related to the cri±cal value of Re (Reynolds number). It’s important to study the flow of fluids through pipes so that we can be²er understand what factors come in to play (fric±on, velocity, pipe area, etc). In the second part of this experiment we will be using the Venturi meter to show how important the cross sec±onal area of the pipe when examinining the increase and decrease of velocity, flow rate, and pressure.
