Mixing the Colors to Get a Picture Writing in English is very different from writing in the language I grew up with. I was not familiar with the parts of writing and the process of writing. Before I came to United States, I never knew that a paper contains a main thesis that controls the paper, and also that it has individual topics that relate back to thesis, and connecting ideas which makes the whole paper. I never wrote an essay or any type of writing in English before, I only wrote essays in my native language and never learned the process of writing that makes strong, connecting ideas throughout the paper. Therefore, when I came to the United States, the accustoming myself to the process of writing was difficult and also challenging to me. It was always hard for me to put my ideas and thoughts into the paper. I think that practice makes things perfect, through, and this shows through the different levels of my class work. Even I went to High School in the U.S., I never learned the process of writing as I did when I took writing classes at the University of Georgia. When taking ENGL 1101, writing with a main topic for each body paragraph and give supporting examples was difficult part of me, putting them together easier. While taking ENGL 1102M, writing with central topic and its supporting details became easier than before, including interpretations, and supporting evidence to compose a well-developed paper. Besides writing, throughout this semester, I have learned many things about different cultures.
