(6 points) Arrange the following products according to the % yield obtained from the nitration of t-butylbenzene. Justify the order (6 points) NO 2 NO 2 O 2 N 1a 1 b 1c Alkyl groups are weak electron donors and therefore slightly activating, t-butylbenzene will direct to the ortho and para positions, but the large size of the t-butyl group will sterically hinder both of the ortho positions and thus favor para substitution over ortho. Thus, 1c > 1a > 1b. (3-points for sequence, 3 points for argument)
