Chapter 6 Management In Action BUS 137 Principles of Management 1903SU Frances Drew 1. I think that of Michael Porters strategies, Walgreens strategic position is Broad needs, few customers. I say this because with Walgreens and the path that they have chosen for growth, they are heading down a road where instead of going the route that Wal-Mart and CVS where they are aiming for a broader group of people to supply more inexpensive prescription’s. Walgreens on the other hand is going for the specialty drugs that are for cancer patients for example. While there is a less demand the drugs are more expensive therefore creating more of a profit margin. Now I don’t know that they are taking the right approach but it is defiantly a risky approach. If it were to go right then they could stand to make a lot of money since they are going a completely different direction that its two biggest competitors. So for I can see why their investors would be nervous since they are down 22% and CVS is up 17%. Big ideas however take time to really start to turn a profit for some companies, so while risky it really could be worthwhile.
