Once the initial problem is defined and understood, the first and most important step of the process is complete. Sometimes it is difficult to identify the problem, define it, and ensure that it is understood; however, at other times, it almost seems to reveal itself quite easily. Next in the process is to develop an alternative solution, or solutions to address the problem. Depending on whether the existing system needs a complete overhaul or an entirely new system, this is an important and critical step. An information systems team evaluates the solutions and chooses the best solution, keeping in mind important variables, such as, time, cost, efficiency, and risk. This brings us to the implementation of the solution, an important step that needs deep consideration and the right tools, hardware, and software. Now there are a few steps to the process of implementing the solution, and include hardware selection and acquisition, software development and programming, testing, training and documentation, conversion, and production and maintenance. This is the step when everything comes together and put into a working system. First, it is important that the system builder selects the appropriate hardware for the application, and they can do this by either purchasing the necessary computers and hardware or leasing them from a technology provider. The software can be custom programmed within the business or outsourced, from an external vendor. Performing a system test is crucial in ensuring that it produces the right results. This includes a detailed test of all individual computer programs, called a unit test, a systems test, which is a performance test on the entire system, and an acceptance test , which proves the system is ready to go in a production setting . To use the new system, the end users need proper training so that they will be able to use effectively the new system. Also, documentation will
