Discussions To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week's Discussion link in the left navigation: Social Norms Sociologists recognize norms in two different categories; formal and informal. These formal and informal categories govern every culture’s daily activities. If you were asked to temporarily take the position of a high school principal, from a sociological perspective, what norms would you want to govern the student’s behavior? Include the type of norm you would suggest and provide examples. How might these norms differ from those appropriate for college students? Respond to two of your classmates. If I were asked to be a high school principal, I would look first at the sanctions the school has in place. According to our text, sanctions are “penalties and rewards for conduct concerning a social norm.”(Schaefer, 2009, pg 155). A social norm for school would be attendance. I would set strict policies against truancy, to ensure each student is receiving the same education. Those who decided to
