1. The Father of Kindergarten The text discusses Froebel and his contributions to early educational thought and practice. List three contributions or practices that are still in effect today. What do you think Froebel would say about the Kindergarten classes of today? Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Friedrich Wilhelm Frobel, according to our text, devoted hid life to develpoing a system for teaching young children”(Morrison, 2009, pg 93). His main belief was that children could learn through play His many beliefs and contributions have earned him the title “Father of Kindergarten(garden of children. List three contributions or practices that are still in effect today Gifts: Gifts are “objects for children to handle and explore with a teacher's supervision and guidance”(pg 94). Froebel's gifts contribution is still in use today. His original gifts included: 1-) Six colored balls of soft yarn or wool 2-)Wooden Sphere, cylinder, and a cube 3-) Eight cubes presented together as a cube 4-)Eight rectangular pieces presented as a cube 5-)21 cubes, six half cubes, and 12 quarter cubes 6-)24 rectangular pieces, six columns, and 12 caps These first six gifts were Froebel's original gifts, but have been added to over time to include 10 currently. Children can hold the “gifts” in different ways “and esamine the complexity of these seemingly simple shapes.”(Morrison, 2009, pg 94) Two other features of Froebel's Kindergarten that we still use today are the Play Circle(where children
