Jan 27 th Natural Scientific Approach- most prevalent in the structural functionalist, originated in Europe, examines different structures in society, elaborates on the functions the these structures serve, examine the norms in society and what functions they serve, macro- analysis (large groups), focus on answering the questions WHY?, very conservative approach. -Spencer, Merton, Comte Humanistic Arts Approach-emphasis on perception of individuals, originated in America, Doesn’t examine the question WHY but instead HOW? , micro-analysis -Mead Critical Approach- subset of the general classification of the conflict or power approach, Post- Modernist Approach, 180 degrees different from the structured approach, things that exist in society don’t need to be functional they can lead to disruption, society is held together by fraud, focus on answering WHY?, macro-analysis -Marx, Dubois, Martineau, Addams Research Methods Sociology is a science -Therefore it is systematic and objective and investigates observable
