The Aeneid was written by Virgil around the time of 29-19 B.C. around the fall of the republic. Though he did not finish the work before he died, it was latter published after his death. He gained fame through his writings of the Eclogues and the Georgics which captured the attention of the Roman population and made the Aeneid most popular work of writing. The Aeneid ’s credibility and popularity is also due to Virgil’s friendship with Maecenas. The Aeneid is based heavily off the works of Homer, specially the Odyssey and the Iliad but much more focused for the Roman population where as the others were for the Greek population. Virgil wrote the epic in dactylic hexameters, most people read the Aeneid outloud but it was sung by people or recited to large groups. The Aeneid follows the character Aeneas through his journey after the Trojan War into what would be the founding of Rome and ancestry of the Julio- Claudian royal family. The epic follows Aeneas into Carthage and his romance with Dido, his
