With the globalization of current U.S. colleges, we are seeing more and more international students coming to the states. That number is believed to somewhere 500,000 students. What does that mean for U.S. companies? There is a huge market segment for companies in the U.S. and the need to find out the purchasing behaviors of these students that are new to the U.S. Two approaches have been predominantly used while collecting data on purchasing behaviors of international students. The first is the empiricist approach, which examines the validity of present consumer behavior theories and knowledge when applied to other cultures (Conway 2000). The second is the interpretive approach, which attempts to interpret motives and meanings of consumer actions in other cultures (Conway 2000). Airlines in American have used the empiricist approach and implemented discounts on international flights for students that
