Focus Film Theories Analysis: 2046 1. Cultural Theory: Wong Kar-Wai’s films are very vivid when it comes to time and place (i.e. early 1960s HK). Wai is considered to be one of the major characters of the new wave movement in Asian Cinema. In addition, Wai portrays both the past as well as the future in 2046, yet either period appears to be very bright. In 2046 the characters lead anonymous, alienated lives. The film 2046 is an original story by Wai. In fact, before coming to directing in the late 1980s, he is said to have written over 60 (credited and un-credited) scripts. As far as style goes, Wai’s trademarks are stamped. Visually and in regards to narrative, 2046 features; atmospheric lighting, Close ups, meditative pacing, love,
