THE ABOLITIONIST MOVEMENT 2 1. Assess if abolitionists were responsible reformers or irresponsible agitators? Abolitionists were responsible reformers. Slavery was established in the early 1700s as the Carolinas began to pass slave laws based on the Barbados slave codes of the late 1600s (Corbett, et al., 2014) . Oglethorpe's, whose vision was to ban slavery. Thomas Jefferson who try to abolish slavery. Many abolitionists try to stop slavery. Abraham Lincoln is another name who fought for slavery. In the statement of declaration of independence, there was stated all humans are created equal. All human beings are equally treated, have equal rights, and can pursuit happiness at all times. All the abolitionists were responsible for eradicating slavery. But few of them was considered an irresponsible agitator because they tried to do unnecessary violence which was against the constitution. 2. Explain how abolitionists upheld the Declaration of Independence as the foundation of antislavery and abolitionist thought.
