----------------------------------------------------------------------- --- USING FTP TO TRANSFER FILES BETWEEN COMPUTERS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Students sometimes want to transfer files between rohan and their home PC, such as at the end of the semester when "class accounts" are set to expire. "FTP" software is the most commonly used software for transferring files between two computers. "FTP" means "file transfer protocol," which is an old and popular Internet protocol (communication standard) for transferring files between computers. PCs and Macs usually come with ftp software. The basic ftp software that comes with Windows is used at the MS-DOS prompt (sometimes called the Command Prompt). Fancier, graphical ftp software also exists. The instructions below explain how to use the basic ftp software that usually comes with PCs. (Note: Your PC or Mac must have Internet access to use FTP.) Note: you can also transfer files between two rohan accounts, or between any two computers. At the rohan prompt, type "ftp blah" (without the quotes) where "blah" is replaced by the machine you want to connect to, e.g. rohan.sdsu.edu . Then, continue at Step 4 in the instructions below. Note: always be careful when you transfer a file. If there is a file in your current directory, and you then use ftp to "get" (receive) a remote file with the same name, your original file will be erased and replaced by the copy of the remote file that you just transferred. So, be aware of name conflicts when transferring files with ftp.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
