----------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW TO SSH-CONNECT TO ROHAN WITH PUTTY ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This file is a typed-up version of an upcoming lecture. It discusses how to connect to rohan (from home) using PuTTY's "SSH" connection. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Reminder: to connect to rohan from campus computer labs, you can use SSH (discussed on this page) or XWin32 (see an upcoming XWin32 handout, which we'll discuss in lecture soon). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DOWNLOADING PUTTY ----------------- As will be seen in lecture, the PuTTY software download link is on this class website, on the general info page titled "How to Connect to Rohan" (which is located on the "Page 1" main page for this course). * First, on the "How to Connect to Rohan" general info page, click the PuTTY download link. Most browsers will then ask you whether you want to run the software immediately, or save the file to disk. Choose to save it to your disk. In particular, you can save it to your PC's Desktop (to find it easily), or you can save it anywhere on your hard drive and then put a "Shortcut" link to it on your Desktop (again, to find it easily). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RUNNING PUTTY FOR THE FIRST TIME -------------------------------- As will be seen in lecture, start the PuTTY software by double-clicking its Windows icon or its Desktop Shortcut (depending on where you saved it, in the steps above).
