Katie Sanders ENGL 1301 Directions for Paper 2 Purpose : Persuasive Pattern : (Classification) Comparison/Contrast Word Count : 850 Subject : Write a letter to your “community” persuading them to take action for or against something you believe in. (Community is defined as a group of people living in a particular local area.) This could be as specific as your apartment complex or as general as Austin Community College. Other examples could be your church, a club/organization that you are a member of, your gym, your work place, etc. Coversheet : Include a coversheet with your essay that clearly describes the demographics of your audience. Be very specific. Don’t simply say, “people in Austin.” POV : You can either write in 1st person or 3 rd person. This should be written in present tense. Things to Remember : When organizing by Comparison/Contrast, you must choose two things that are closely related. In persuading your audience to take action for or against your idea, you’ll need to explicitly state
