Randy Pausch: An Effective Communicator Purpose : The purpose of this presentation is to explain Randy Pausch’s tremendous impact on a variety of audiences through his “Last Lecture.” INTRODUCTION I. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University. He became renowned after a recording of his “Last Lecture” was posted on YouTube. Despite his fight with terminal Pancreatic cancer, his lecture did not concentrate on his coming death, but instead focused on childhood dreams and living life to the fullest. II. Why we believe he is a powerful speaker a. He paints pictures with words. b. His tone is influential. c. His use of body language is purposeful. III. This presentation explains how Pausch uses the three elements of communication, as stated by Bob Johnson, in order to convey an emotional and powerful message. BODY I. “Words Paint Pictures” a.
