Christina DiGusto L23599763 16th Aug. 2011 Module 8 Reply RE: Faith in the Grey Areas of Taxation Tax evasion is very high in the United States. It has is goes unnoticed because of the percentage of tax returns audited. After reading the article Adam cited, I was surprised that the government as decided to great reprieves. It does make sense since it is not able to track down the offenders adequately. It is also because of the national debt, I believe, the government is trying to gain what is owed so that it can start to bring down the national debt. The Internal Revenue Service has also cited any “taxpayers who made a good faith effort to comply may be eligible for an extension” (IRS.GOV, 2011). This is another way to encourage the offenders as well to come forward and claim the income from offshore accounts. I am with Adam. When it comes to criminal activities, one will always be a criminal. However, the government is not in any position to care how it gets its payment. August 2, 2011
