Axia College Material Appendix B Complete the following chart. The first column shows the name of a research method used in psychology. In the second column, write a brief description of that research method. In the third column, provide a situation when this method could be applied. Research Method Description Application Scientific method Scientific method uses to organize and expand scientific knowledge, such as experiences, observations, and/or beliefs. (Nevid, 2005) This method is applied in psychology when a patient is in a room where they can be observed to gain an understanding of the patient’s illness. Case study method Case study method uses interviews, tests, or questionnaires to compile a patient’s life. (Nevid, 2005) Case study is used to get a better understand of the patient’s life and what might have led to their illness. Survey method Survey method uses questionnaires to learn of a group of people’s attitudes and behaviors.
