Question # 7 Discuss the Place objectives and distribution arrangements that are appropriate for the following products (indicate any special assumptions you have to make to obtain an answer): a. A postal scale for products weighing up to 2 pounds. Unsought product - Must be available in places where related products are sought (or needed), such as the post office. Intensive distribution would be arranged – sell it where they need it. b. Children’s toys: (1) radio-controlled model airplanes costing $80 or more, (2) small rubber balls. Homogeneous products the customer sees as basically the same and wants at the lowest price. Multichannel distribution occurs when a producer uses several competing channels to reach the same target market. c. Heavy-duty, rechargeable, battery-powered nut tighteners for factory production lines. Could be emergency products purchased immediately because of a rainstorm. Exclusive distribution is selling through only one intermediary in a special attention. d. Fiberglass fabric used in making roofing shingles. Specialty product – Price sensitivity is likely to be low; limited distribution may be acceptable, such as different roofing companies. Selective distribution – selling through only those intermediaries who will give the product special attention, (not to many customers ask for fiberglass fabric). Question # 17
