MatSE 448 / CH E 442 Spring 2011 Moldflow Group Project 1 Due Friday, March 4 th @ the start of class. Your supervisor has asked your engineering team to investigate three materials for Injection Molding a newly designed cell phone cover. Your company requires a thorough investigation of potential material candidates prior to completion of the design phase, to prevent tolerancing errors associated with the different shrinkage rates of various polymers. Our injection molding unit has a maximum clamping force of 800 Tons. Write a memo of no more than five pages of text detailing your findings based on the instructions & questions below. You may include as many figures as you wish, in addition to the five pages, as long as each figure is individually discussed in the text, has proper axis labels (with units) and figure captions that clarify exactly what has been plotted . Be sure to include the final material recommendation and explain how you arrived at your choice. This assignment will require a Moldflow analysis to be run on the Cell Phone Cover.IGS file supplied on Angel. Be sure to include enough information so your supervisor will feel comfortable in selecting your chosen material.
