Sedimentary rock contains the fossil remains of past life. This can be proven with the remains of coal oil and natural gas. These animals and plants have decomposed under tons of pressure from the earth above or water from oceans. Fossils can be dated because they where carbon based life forms. This helps scientists to date these remains and compare it to the depth that the fossil was found help date that strata. This also helps explain the disappearance of layers of strata due to water and wind erosion and or the material was deposited in a location from these elements. Life forms found in the first layer range from pectin gibbous and neptunea tabulate to calyptraphorus velatus. These fossils tell me that there was an ocean in this area and these are aquatic life. The second layer is called the Mesozoic Era, the medieval life, this layer contains life forms from the cretaceous period, the Jurassic period and the Triassic period. These life forms are scaphlites hippocrepis and trophites subbullatus and monotis
