With the upset of American rebellious attitudes, the British took time to develop a plan to control their so called subordinates. Along with their 30, 000 German mercenaries, the British had the advantage of a strong Naval force. The colonists were not unified and most of them were against the Revolution for various reasons. The sole purpose of the English was to control, but the expenditures that would lead to that control were astronomical, and in reality, useless. Warring across seas was expensive for obvious reasons, as well as establishment. This war was not so much fought for tangible objects but more for rights, less for philosophy. Slaves and slaveholders seemed to be at the edge seeing as slavery would be abolished if the British won, and Virginia, with over 300,000 slaves, could not afford to lose their primary laborers. This war was for many a kind in colonial America. White women were liberated and gained responsibilities that were held up by the husbands. This showed that women were
