28. In an essay of at least two well-developed paragraphs, explain how the concept of socialism developed. Begin with the political movements of the late 1700s and end with the influences of Karl Marx. A French revolutionary named François Noël Babeuf came up with the idea of eliminating private property to create equality. He is considered the first socialist. The idea of socialism became popular in the late 1700s.The Industrial Revolution caused some extreme changes around the world. It marked a shift from agricultural societies to modern industries. Tools were avoided in favor of cutting-edge machinery. Factories and railways grew, which led to the owners of these industries becoming very wealthy. Workers became poor because there were no jobs as machines began to replace human labor. People were afraid the difference in income would continue to spread, making the rich richer and the poor poorer. This led to unrest among working class people.
