Chemical Engineering Department University of Florida ECH 4323L ACCESSING MATLAB USING X11 IN A UNIX MACHINE The educational license versions of MATLAB and its associated program SIMULINK at the University of Florida are set up to run only on Unix computers reachable under the domain name grove.ufl.edu Furthermore, MATLAB is configured to run under an X11 environment in these computers. Login and matlab execution instructions 1 . Open the X11 environment in your Unix guest computer. 2. Open an Xterm window and connect to the grove.ufl.edu host computers by typing ssh –X grove.ufl.edu or ssh –X usernane@grove.ufl.edu where username is your username in the Grove Class Account (do not use your Gatorlink account, because you may not have MATLAB privileges). 3. Login with your username and password. 4. Open an Xterm window by typing matlab Alternatively, select the following from the X11 Workspace Manager ( where you should look for either the word Application or for a small triangle pointing upward that brings up a list of applications): Applications -> Matlab
