Ethnic Groups and Discrimination 2 When I look at my family I see a mixture of a few different ethnic groups. On my Father’s side it is the traditional Anglo Saxon origins with our ancestors coming from Scottish and English decent. My mother’s side of the family is of German lineage. For the purposes of this paper I have decided to go with my mother’s side of the family. From the stories I grew up hearing, my great, great Grandparents came directly from Germany during the late Eighteen Hundreds. They came by boat and settled in the area of Galveston Island in South Texas. Most German Immigrants settling in Texas came through Galveston Island. German Immigrants were some of the first people to come to North America. In sixteen o eight, German immigrants were instrumental in the foundation of the settlement of Jamestown, and helped in the establishment of New Amsterdam which we now call New York. It is clear that the German peoples have been here since the beginning of this great nation. The driving force behind much of the German immigration to North America started in
