Axia College Material Appendix D Installation of Operating Systems A computer technician must be familiar with the many different ways to upgrade or install different operating systems. You must know how to research the best method for each situation and how to install and support the operating system. Complete the following activity by comparing an upgrade of an operating system to a clean installation of an operating system. Activity One: Upgrade Operating System Versus Clean Installation of Operating System Upgrade Steps necessary to perform upgrade: 1. Boot from or insert Windows CD/DVD 2. Select upgrade from list of install choices 3. Continue until end of installation and reboot Advantages of upgrading: Faster process that full installation of Windows. Does not require user data to be moved Disadvantages of upgrading: Possible data corruption Will not eliminate some malware or virus infected files Original problem might still remain Clean Installation Steps necessary to perform clean installation:
